A psychological game introduced to Joinees by Si Brake

[edit] The game

One person oversees proceedings (the "moderator").

Everyone else is dealt a card.

Two people receive cards that make them werewolves for the round.

One person receives a card that designates them the seer.

Everyone else is a villager.

Everyone closes their eyes except the moderator.

The werewolves open their eyes, silently agree on a victim to murder from among the villagers, and silently indicate their victim to the moderator.

The werewolves close their eyes.

The seer opens their eyes, and points at someone. The moderator silently indicates to the seer whether the person being pointed at is a werewolf or not.

Everyone opens their eyes, and the moderator anounces who has been murdered.

The remaining players discuss the situation. They may be "in character" (as villagers or werewolves pretending to be villagers - or not pretending anything!) or they may leave their character and use their "outside world" knowledge of the player.

Eventually they must agree on someone to be lynched as a suspected werewolf!

This is repeated until either the werewolves have over-run the village (by out-numbering the Villagers) or the villagers have successfully identified and killed both werewolves.

The seer can choose when (and whether) to reveal themselves to the rest of the players, perhaps once they have knowledge of one or more werewolves, knowing that any surviving werewolves are likely to kill them next round. Remember though, that others can also pretend to be the seer, and the true seer may even lie!

So far we've managed not to have any fights while playing it.

The standard Cottaging 1 view

  • Do not analyse the psychology of playing as much as Warren does - you will be killed as quickly as possible.
  • Do trust Kieran... (his preferred tactic is to trust everybody - it's all about collaboration ya see.)
  • In order to reveal the werewolves, wait until only they have their eyes open, and drop your trousers. This tactic worked (actually at JMC2) for Matt Bee but may be considered cheating.

DO NOT trust the following people when playing Werewolf!!

Gold Joinee Kate (SJJM) (GA) - she's implausibly often the seer, otherwise, evil personified!

Kieran - you could trust him too much and so when he IS a wolf you ignore him; so don't trust him...
