The Tyne Bridge was made famous by some Joinees from Newcastle hanging a Join Me banner from it, which prompted the Newcastle Evening Chronicle to notice there was an easy way for the people of Gateshead to access the city. The Bridge was promptly destroyed by the proper authorities, and Newcastle was saved.
