Tarot cards
See The Wikipedia Site for another opinion. The following views are mostly based on studied by Gold Joinee Brake.
Tarot Cards are familiar to most people, being the origin, supposedly, of modern playing cards. They are split into two parts, the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana. Let's look at the latter first, as you'll be more familiar with the imagery.
The Minor Arcana
Edit
The Minor Arcana is made up of four suits, each of which has cards numbered one (Ace) to ten. There are four court cards - the King and Queen remain the same as a standard pack of cards, but the Jack is instead split between the Page card, and the Knight card.
The four suits are as follows:
- The Suit of Wands - linked to creativity and production (and Clubs)
- The Suit of Cups - linked to emotion and dreams (and Hearts)
- The Suit of Swords - linked to intellect and reason (and Spades)
- The Suit of Pentacles - linked to material possessions and health (and Diamonds)
The Major Arcana
Edit
Modern playing cards have only one 'Wild Card', the Joker. Tarot cards have a whole 22 extra cards:
