Manchester
From Join Me
Situated in the north-west of England, north and west of Liverpool. A major city in the Industrial Revolution when it was linked to Leeds over the Pennines by the Manchester Ship canal for the transportation of goods. This period was immortalised by Lowry in his pictures which were themselves immortalised by Status Quo in the song "Pictures of Matchstick Men"
That was a tangent.
Manchester's economic decline through to the 80s became symbolised by the Mosside area of the city, and the IRA bombing of the Trafford centre. The latter was used as an opporunity to completely redesign the heart of the city, and in recent decades it has enticed large sections of the banking community to the rejuvenated canal-sides, and the economic decline has started to be reversed.
