I am a 29 year old woman from Chesterfield in Derbyshire. I first read about Join Me in a magazine in my doctors surgery, however it was a couple of months before I connected the Danny Wallace of Join Me with the Danny Wallace from 'Are You Dave Gorman?' (which incidently is the funniest book I have ever read).
Once the dots were connected I got hold of a copy of the book and found it a heartwarmingly amusing tale. I joined for a bit of fun really - just something to do. But then I guess that is the way Join Me started anyway! I try to be kind to everyone in everyday life anyway (to a fault according to my hubby) so the RAoK bit just formalised it for me on a friday.
I have now been a Joinee since Sept 2003. I like the fact that Joinees are from all over and are very very different but have a core commonality - kindness. It is something everyone should be doing anyway and Join Me helps that along. Restoring faith in human kindness can only be a good thing.
I once bought a packet of tissues for an old lady I didn't know in a hospital as she had a sniffle - she started crying her eyes out as she never normally saw that kind of kindness. Instead of feeling good I had done something kind I felt hollow that no-one else ever did anything for this lady. Join Me seeks to change this and for that I am glad. I love the fact that it has grown from a crazy mad stupid project into this wonderful community of caring individuals.
