My join me tale is a similar one to many others I think....
I saw that Dave Gorman BBC TV series years ago, and so knew of Danny Wallace through that. I eventually got round to buying the join me book and reading it after Christmas this year after a friend of mine started raving about it - she still hasn't joined yet though. I joined that week (Jan 2005) and have since tried to convince many of my friends to do the same. As far as I know, I haven't yet succeeded. I did persuade 3 of them to come with me to GGF2 (my first meet) last month, which I found a strange but definitely fun experience. I try to do a couple of little RAOKs every friday (and sometimes other days if an obvious opportunity arises) which usually involve sending cards to people I don't know, putting chocolate through letterboxs or on cars (adorned with join me stickers telling them why) helping people carry shopping and whatever else I think of on the spur of the moment.
One of the things I like about Join Me is that there are people all over the world now doing random nice things for strangers who maybe wouldn't do otherwise. It took me reading the book to realise that I think about myself far too much and should be more generous and thoughtful to not only strangers, but the people I am around all the time too. I love making people smile and giving them something positive to talk about.
